Jet propelled rescuer boosts NSRI's Saldanha volunteers
According to Ports and Ships website, Transnet National Ports Authority (TNPA) has demonstrated its commitment to water safety by launching - in partnership with the National Sea Rescue Institution (NSRI) - a Rescue Runner named 'TNPA Rescuer One' in Saldanha Bay.

A Rescue Runner, which can be used by a single rescuer, is jet propelled, allowing it to be used in a bathing area without placing other bathers at risk. Each Rescue Runner can carry four people at a time, but can also be used as a floating platform for up to eight people until larger rescue boats arrive, reports Ports and Ships.
Tau Morwe, Chief Executive of TNPA said that, as part of its corporate social responsibility, TNPA seeks to assist in decreasing the number of fatalities on the water.
NSRI CEO, Ian Wienburg said that his organisation is run by 980 unpaid volunteers who are "putting their lives at risk to save other lives and facing dangerous conditions at sea." Wienburg told Ports and Ships that NSRI volunteers' tasks depend "on proper training and excellent equipment such as the Rescue Runners."
