Bold flavours at new Asian fusion restaurant YUFor a diverse selection of umami flavour bombs head to new Asian fusion restaurant YU, situated at The Onyx hotel in the Foreshore in Cape Town. I attended the recent media launch and I think we practically tried everything off the menu, from dim sum to dessert! ![]() The flavours are bold and punchy, there really isn’t any skimping on flavour, so a couple of small plates are recommended to share with plenty of liquid to pair it with, like the Japanese craft beers, signature cocktails or sake on offer. ![]()
The venue is modern and clean, yet dimly lit enough to still feel intimate and relaxed, perfect for date nights or business dinners. The service was attentive and effortless, even though it was a packed night due to the launch. ![]() Recommended dishesThe deep fried soft shell crab with sesame mayo was perfection, the crispy rice with beef wagyu tartar an absolute riot of flavour and texture, the lamb chops lip-smackingly indulgent, the dim sum perfectly crafted and the calamari so good that our table was fighting over the last morsel. ![]() For slightly less rich dishes, the seared tuna with sesame, expertly-rolled sushi and line fish with crispy fried greens will refresh your palette. ![]() Dessert offers options such as oozy chocolate fondants, passion fruit pannacotta and deep friend apple wontons.
