Sanef calls on Julius Malema, EFF leadership to apologise to Karima Brown
The South African National Editors' Forum (Sanef) condemned the Economic Freedom Fighters' attack on journalist Karima Brown. In what Sanef has cited as a clear example of the attack on media freedom, EFF leader Julius Malema released Brown's cellphone number after which his supporters started sending her a range of attacks.
Malema was reportedly spurred on after Brown mistakenly sent a message, meant for a journalist group, to an EFF WhatsApp group.
Sanef has called on the EFF to allow journalists to do their work without fear and intimidation. The editors' forum has also asked that Malema and the rest of the EFF leadership apologise to Brown.
It also appealed to the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) to monitor these incidents involving the media and to educate political parties on the Electoral Act.
