Miss SA sets Backabuddy collection record in #KnysnaFire crowdfunding campaign
Miss South Africa Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters set a new record on the Backabuddy local crowdfunding platform when she raked in more than R290,000 (her target is R500,000) in Knysna fire donations within 72 hours. Nel-Peters had been interviewed by Darren ‘Whackhead' Simpson on 947 and she discussed her Backabuddy campaign after which listeners donated R150,000 towards the cause.
The money collected will be allocated to the Sedgefield Lions, a local group that supports charities, to purchase needed supplies like water, tinned food, baby food, bread, blankets, toiletries as well as pet food. All of the proceeds will be distributed across the Garden Route to those were affected by the fires.
