Financial Accountant
Job overview:This position will be based in the finance department and reporting to the CFO, supporting the financial management function by managing and improving the overall value in all areas of the business. The role is also critical in the timeous monthly reporting and finance management of The Rooms Network and other companies in the group when necessary.
Key responsibilitiesKey Performance AreasTasks and ActivitiesRecord Keeping or GL & Compliance- Oversee and maintenance of General Ledger chat of accounts.
- Oversee and maintain the monthly reconciliation of General Ledger accounts.
- Ensure all the journals, including accruals, are processed on time in the accounting system.
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards and other regulatory bodies in how transactions are accounted for.
- Preparation of accurate financial reporting information as required by management and/ or per IFRS for SMEs.
- Prepare tax computations periodically as it becomes due and ensure that the tax returns are also prepared and submitted on time.
- Prepare monthly VAT return and reconciliations ensure this is correct and submitted on time to avoid interest and penalties.
- Address internal and external audits queries to ensure compliance.
Budgeting and monthly reporting- Monthly budget consultations with the budget holders/ HoDs.
- Ensure adherence by the departments to their budgets.
- Ensure budget projections, expenses and revenue forecasts are updated monthly, quarterly and yearly.
- Review budget variance reports and ensure that this has been substantiated commentary.
- Assist the CFO with the budget process by ensuring compliance to budget policy, flagging non-compliance to HoDs and ensuring the yearly progress is reported accordingly.
- Complete weekly cash flow forecasts and make sure that this is attainable given the cash projections.
- Review the cost analysis reports and provide monthly departmental costs analysis to HoDs.
- Prepare monthly management accounts for each company.
- Assist in the preparation of the Financial Statements.
- Assist in the preparation of key risks indicators report for managing the overall group risks.
Stakeholder management- Organise executive meetings and prepare agendas.
- Collaborate with other stakeholders.
- Assist in building the culture that is conducive for staff to work within.
- Perform regular review of self-performance and give/ request feedback accordingly.
- Assist the CFO in setting goals for staff within the department.
- Identify staff development needs and train accordingly.
- Identify training requirements for the staff within the department and ensure that adequate training is done by each staff member within the costs budgeted for.
Processes and procedure effectiveness- Continually improve existing process and procedures to enhance effectiveness, efficiency and performance.
- Resolve technical queries of budget controllers of departments.
- Create awareness amongst budget controllers regarding input requirements and deadline.
Customer service- Understand customer needs and input into the fine-tuning of processes and procedures accordingly.
- Ensure all customer queries are attended to and resolved.
- Ensure that customer specifications are met, and that the customer is satisfied with the end service and/or product.
- Weigh up the pros and cons of each solution to provide the best service to customers.
- Consider the implications of actions to be taken for the customer / the effect of actions on the customer.
- Provide advice on the best approach to reach the best results.
- Deliver first time right service excellence.
- Pull data from the system in response to queries received for information.
Quality management- Work consistently according to standards of accuracy, deadlines and formats.
- Understand the quality standards of the job and the reason for these standards and communicate these reasons to others.

Job requirementsEducation and experience- Degree in Accounting or similar is essential
- 2-4 years business experience in accounting and reporting, with at least 2 years of those in an accounting position
- Media experience
