American Sports Writer Intern

Highbury Media (Pty) Ltd T/A Habari Media is a media powerhouse whose world-class titles connect brands to targeted audiences. We are seeking an intern residing in Cape Town, currently unemployed, and seeking to gain workplace experience to join our dynamic editorial team. This role focuses on digital content but may also involve some work on print magazines.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:

• Writing engaging articles and social media posts focused on NFL, NBA, MLB, and other major American sports.
• Assist in developing the synopsis
• Provide well-researched, balanced articles
• Maintain a strong emphasis on checking facts
• Develop sources and information networks in a professional manner
• Keep abreast of current affairs and trends
• Ensure all deadlines are kept
• Ensure the copy fulfills the brief
• Maintaining the high editorial standard of the magazines
• Liaise fully with copy editing department over copy usage
• Using tools like ChatGPT or other AI writing assistants to brainstorm, outline, or enhance content.

Requirements:

• Ability to work accurately and professionally under pressure
• Very good English grammar and spelling skills
• Able to work outside office hours when requested (including weekends)
• A good knowledge of cricket and general sport, including technical aspects of the game
• Willingness to learn
• Computer literate
• Proactive and self-disciplined
• A good team player
