Job description

Key Roles and Responsibilities:
- Operate and manage the library
- Coordinate and plan the development of strategic library goals and applications;
- Development, maintenance and quality control of the library database for optimal information retrieval;
- Ensuring that the library has a diverse and relevant collection of resources that meet the needs of students and staff.
- Technical processing of material: Classification and cataloguing of new stock and update library database;
- Weeding of stock by disposing of duplicates and other out-of-date items;
- Creating Collaborative Learning Space
- Managing records concerning the collection, for example orders, correspondence and statistics;
- Provide reference and research assistance to students ;
- Provide research support to faculty/academics;
- Assist students with technology e.g. computer use when necessary;
- Locate items in the catalogue and on shelves for patrons;
- Perform circulation duties/ lending services;
- Information retrieval via STADIO databases, Internet sources or print material;
- Write procedures and notices for circulation and use of library resources;
- Monthly report on achievements/highlights and challenges, library news and updates;
- Coordinate special events such as reading promotions;
- Outreach and Promotion library services, resources, and events to increase awareness and usage among campus community.
- Library exhibitions/displays, special events and open days.
- Liaise with lecturers on academic content needs for improved, focused student support sessions.
- Provide materials and support services to support the instructional goals of the institution
- Planning and management of activities in the section to ensure regular workflow.
- Select print and non-print material to support STADIO programmes;
- Build the collection to support the academic goals of the programmes;
- Provide the faculties with bibliographies, catalogues and news of information resources that support subject areas being taught.
- Staff and user management
- Maintain a friendly and inviting learning environment.
- Enforce library rules and take appropriate action in case of misbehaviour;
- Regular staff meetings;
- Supervises staff (students)
- Financial Management
- Input/Drafting and management of the library budget and reporting to the Centre for Academic Success Manager on these financial issues.
- Liaise with retailers for best prices and services for library resources;
- Orders and payments of purchased materials as well as subscriptions.
- Library Development
- Collaborating with faculty, students, and other departments or organizations to develop new programs, initiatives, or services that enhance the overall library experience.
- Develop and implement systems, processes and resources to meet student requirements.
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Monitoring and evaluating library services and resources to ensure their effectiveness attending conferences, workshops, and training sessions to stay informed about current trends and best practices in librarianship.
- Miscellaneous
- Ad hoc tasks, such as shelving of books.
- Schools/Academic to liaise with librarian on updates to official booklists prior to confirming with Learning Material Manager

Requirements
Minimum Experience Requirements:- Five years’ experience in library management position.
- Understanding of multi-campus dynamics.
- Budget and asset management skills.
- Knowledge and understanding of both traditional and emerging academic library services and standards, as well as emerging technologies.
- High level of computer proficiency with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online platforms.
- Experience working with students, and staff from diverse cultural backgrounds.
Qualifications Requirements:
- A three- or four-year Bachelor of Library and/or Information Science/Studies degree
- A Bachelor's degree plus a post graduate diploma in Library and/or Information Science
- A four-year University of Technology degree in Library and Information Studies (BTech)
- Affiliation to the professional association with knowledge of current practices, procedures, and trends in the field of Library and Information Sciences.
