Although only available in the South African market from December 2007, the brandy has already collected its first international award: the Distell Trophy for the Best Worldwide Brandy was handed to chief brandy master, Kobus Gelderblom, at the International Wine & Spirit Competition (IWSC) held in London on 6 November this year.
“KWV 15 Year Old is a strong contender for top place in our brandy portfolio,” says senior brand manager for KWV's brandy portfolio, Thandisizwe Ncalu. “We already have a strong following for our Three, Five, Ten and Twenty Year Old brandies and we're anticipating a similar reaction to this brandy.”
The 15 Year Old is a pure double distilled pot still brandy, matured in selected French oak barrels for at least 15 years and its flavour is described as complex, featuring dried fruit, peaches, apple and fig, enhanced with a delicate spiciness and rounded off with hints of raspberries, vanilla, nuts and even a hint of tobacco. In Cognac they would refer to the complexity as “very strong rancio”.
It is priced at approximately R320 and will be available from selected retailers nationwide from now, the first week of December 2007.
