Position: Master Solar Technician

Main job purpose

The Master Solar Technician will organise and plan solar projects from start to finish, including monitoring progress, managing risks, and ensuring continuous communication with all relevant stakeholders. The successful project manager will be a proactive, self-driven achiever with high levels of energy.

Employment specifications

Education and experience
  • School: Matric
  • Post-school: Electrical engineering degree or BTech (must have practical experience) and/or qualified electrician with wireman’s licence (must be an excellent communicator)
  • Additional: Management development programme would be advantageous
Job-related requirements
  • Valid unendorsed Code 8 driver’s licence
  • Strong computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Experience in:
    • Day-to-day operational and business management
    • Project management and planning
    • Design work
    • Procurement processes and systems
    • Electrical design and maintenance processes
    • Solar systems and installations
  • Anticipated future experience in managing a team
Required competencies
  • Fluency in English with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and self-management abilities
  • Expertise in electrical reticulation and wiring
  • Strategic planning and follow-through

Physical demands and work environment
  • Work both indoors and outdoors, spending time on construction sites or existing facilities as needed
  • Must be able to work at heights and drive on public roads
  • Regular overtime, standby duties, and occasional weekend work are required
Essential duties and responsibilities
  • Manage the solar department and its functions, including client interaction, planning, design, procurement, and installation of solar solutions
  • Estimate and establish budgets for purchases
  • Maintain accurate purchase records and pricing
  • Develop and sustain strong relationships with vendors, suppliers, and customers
  • Make professional decisions swiftly in a fast-paced setting
  • Oversee and ensure compliance with health and safety standards
  • Maintain COC records and essential data
  • Assess vendor and supplier options to ensure high-quality products and supplies
  • Monitor inventory of all supplies
  • Collaborate with team members as needed
