Lecturer: Afrikaans Language (School of Education)Job descriptionKey Roles and Responsibilities:- Lecture and assess contact learning and distance learning students in the BEd (Foundation Phase Teaching) and BEd (Intermediate Phase Teaching) the following modules:
- Afrikaans Home Language
- Afrikaans First Additional Language
- Language Conversational Afrikaans
- Perform the role and responsibilities of the module coordinator (MC).
- Compile teaching, learning, and assessment materials.
- Use a learning management system independently and/or work collaboratively to develop and deliver modules.
- Participate in relevant programme, curriculum and material development.
- Carry out allocated internal moderation responsibilities.
- Carry out invigilation of venue-based assessments as reasonably required by the Registrar’s Office.
- Participate in school-based Teaching Practice assessments.
- Provide academic support to students.
- Complete all Quality Assurance requirements related to the modules and programmes.
- Participate in research and community engagement projects.
- Ensure prompt and effective communication with students, colleagues, line managers, and other members of management.
- Ensure administrative efficiency, effectiveness and compliance with all policies and SOPs.
- Participate in and attend meetings and workshops.
- Fulfil functions on relevant committees, and in meetings and workshops as reasonably requested by management.
- Fulfil all reasonably expected administrative functions relating to the position and as requested by the relevant line manager.
Minimum Requirements:- At least 3 years teaching and /or lecturing experience in Afrikaans for the Foundation and Intermediate Phases
- Experience in curriculum and materials development.
- Experience in online and blended teaching and learning environments
Qualification:- Minimum Bachelor of Education Honours or equivalent qualification with relevant study in Afrikaans Home and First Additional Language
Key Attributes:- Sound teaching and assessment skills.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
- High level of computer proficiency with good knowledge of modern Information Technology infrastructure and online learning platforms.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to cope with change.
- Willingness to work when required on Saturdays.
- Strong organizational, time management, and coordination skills with the ability to multi-task, work under pressure and adhere to deadlines.
