Who we are looking for
A trade marketing manager to work from Zambia who has previously worked within the African market.
What you will do
- Plan and execute direct marketing approaches – including targeting, customisation of brand messaging and measurability, customer profiling, and segmentation.
- Collaborate with key stakeholders – internal (management, brands/category, production, and accounts/finance) and external (channel partners, activation agencies, and regulatory authorities).
- Oversee strategic programmes – manage activities and events for brand(s).
- Ensure brand meets expectations – monitor marketing trends and feedback from partners and stakeholders.
Key expectations- Manage trade spend – allocate the advertising and promotional (A&P) budget across all channels/customers.
- Optimise channel strategies – segment the customer base and work closely with P&Ls to maximise return on investment (ROI).
- Market potential analysis – measure market potential by channel and identify target segments.
- Commercialise brand plans – work closely with marketing/category management on pack formats, pricing, and promotions.
- Develop and execute trade promotions – manage pricing, sales estimates, operational alignment, and point-of-sale (POS) development.
- Category management – collaborate with brand managers to develop key account solutions and in-store merchandising programmes.
- Monitor brand registrations – track brand and SKU registrations.
- Trade promotion development – standardise trade promotions across top-end and retail markets.
- Marketing investment evaluation – define evaluation metrics and improve promotion success rates.
- Competitor tracking – monitor competitor activities and brand performance.
- Promotional programmes – develop trade promotions to attract wholesalers, distributors, and retailers.
- Product category planning – identify range and merchandise proposals.
- Local market promotions – recommend and develop sales-driven market promotions.
- Feedback on product launches – provide insights to management on new product launches and relaunches.
- Maximise distribution on launches – design and execute impactful product launches.
- Stakeholder communication – build relationships with the group marketing and media team.
- Best practice sharing – collect and disseminate best practices for profitable trade marketing activities.
- Align with sales objectives – ensure trade marketing strategies support sales goals.
- Trade communications – develop both traditional and digital trade communications.
- POS allocation and visibility – standardise POS materials across all channels.
What you must have- Degree qualification (preferably in trade marketing and marketing communications).
- Minimum ten years of marketing experience in the FMCG sector (Africa experience preferable).
- Strong understanding of marketing tools and techniques to enhance brand visibility and equity.
- Knowledge of social media and the impact of technology on communications and collaboration.
Skills and experience- Strategic and creative thinker with experience in diverse media strategies (digital and traditional).
- Strong management and leadership skills with a track record of leading high-performing teams.
- Ability to manage complex relationships across different programmes and external stakeholders.
- Experience in managing websites and digital platforms.
