Arbor Month in South Africa
As we celebrate Arbor Month, it is crucial to highlight the importance of conserving and protecting our trees, especially those used in traditional medicine. The traditional medicine trade in South Africa is a significant industry, valued at R2.9bn annually and accounting for 5.6% of the national health budget. This vibrant trade supports 27 million consumers and provides a livelihood for at least 133,000 people, many of whom are rural women. Record earnings for Sappi despite challenging year

Sappi announces financial results for fourth quarter and full year
Commenting on the group's results, Sappi chief executive officer Steve Binnie said: "The group's performance over the past year was severely impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, the related government lockdowns and the ensuing economic after-effects. While the first half of the year was satisfactory given that we started the year with dissolving pulp prices at historic lows, the third quarter saw the full impact of Covid-19 before a gradual recovery began in the fourth quarter, in particular for dissolving pulp (DP). Beekeepers demonstrate resilience during Covid-19
A Sappi-sponsored programme that helps communities adjacent to forestry plantations to become beekeepers, has shown some unexpectedly encouraging results during the time of the Covid-19 pandemic. Non-profit consultant and founder of the African Honey Bee programme, Guy Stubbs, who has more than 30 years' experience in small and micro-enterprise development, was struck by the incredible resilience being demonstrated by the families that have been part of this beekeeping project. Sappi Southern Africa has been recognised for their contribution to promoting export competitiveness, having taken top honours at the 2019 KZN Exporter of the Year Awards held at the ICC in Durban on Thursday, 17 October. Sappi was announced as winner in the 'Large Exporter' category and was also acknowledged as finalist in the 'Africa' and the 'Manufacturers' categories. Sappi wishes to confirm that it has reached an agreement to sell its Enstra Mill recycled containerboard and kraft papers business situated in Springs near Johannesburg to Corruseal Group.
