Minister Margaret Mwanakatwe supports Zambia-South Africa joint venture

Top300 Companies & Government Departments publication launches as joint venture between KPMG Zambia and Topco Media South Africa.

Zambia’s Minister of Commerce Trade and Industry, Margaret Mwanakatwe, encourages businesses to invest in Zambia. “The country has had a stable economy with growth averaging 6% over the last decade, stable inflation averaging 7% over the last five years as well as a stable political and social environment since the country gained independence. In terms of doing business, we are ranked fifth in sub-Saharan Africa, third among the SADC countries, fourth in COMESA and eighth in the whole of Africa, pointing to the conduciveness of our business environment.” It is evident that Zambia is open for business and most importantly the Minister is driving economic growth.

Minister Mwanakatwe will speak at the launch on 4 April 2016 and high-profile business and public sector leaders are expected to attend.

Dr Mathews Phosa, South African businessman, will be the keynote speaker and a number of highly influential Zambian and South African business leaders are expected to attend. “My call is for government to engage in a review of the structures and laws that drives economic growth and investment. We need to do this urgently as the world and the continent is changing,” says Phosa.

In October 2016, the Zambian National Business Awards will be launched. The National Business Awards were initially launched in South Africa and are known as the “business Oscars”. They recognise the important social and environmental contributions made by organisations through the excellence of service, commitment to their customers, ethical behaviour and environmental sustainability.
