OFM to support Child Welfare on Mandela Day

OFM, the sound of your life in central South Africa, is embarking on a very special project this Nelson Mandela Day and is inviting all of its loyal listeners be part of this great initiative.

On 18 July, listeners are requested to give up 67 minutes of their time to make a huge difference in the life of someone less fortunate by dropping off a blanket, warm clothes or tinned foods at any of four collection points in Bloemfontein, Kimberley, Vanderbijlpark, Klerksdorp and Welkom.

The Mandela Day Blanket Drive was inspired by the fact that during Nelson Mandela’s incarceration on Robben Island, his only comfort was a thin blanket. Those who knew him say he would have gladly given it away to someone who needed it more.

This year, the Nelson Mandela Foundation decided to take action against poverty by giving freely, getting rid of excess and redistributing resources. OFM is proud to get behind this project one hundred percent and hopes its listeners will follow suit.

Says OFM General Manager, Nick Efstathiou: “The message behind Mandela Day is simple – if each one of us heeds the call to do something good every day, we can all build the country of our dreams and make a positive difference. This year, our blanket drive will be in aid of Child Welfare. Please join us in this great effort on 18 July by donating a blanket, warm clothes or non-perishable food items. Let central South Africa lead the change towards a better South Africa.”
