After competing his Financial Analysis studies at Stellenbosch University, Bevan joined UCS solutions as a junior consultant. He went on to work at a firm in the mobile payment industry, and slowly started to connect the dots between business, retail and mobile systems and seeing how the three could work seamlessly together. When the time came for Bevan to go into business by himself he went to his old friend, Basie Kok whom he met at university, and asked him to build the prototypes that would be the basis of their initial company, WiWallet.

Bevan quickly learnt that they were competing with other wallets and services for a piece of the consumer market. Bevan sat down with his team, with a new vision. They would white label their product, change to a business to business model and become the platform that aggregates all the other apps and services entering the market. Rather than competing with mobile wallets and apps and payment gateways, wiGroup would enable them. This is when wiWallet became wiGroup, the single aggregator of all mobile transactions across stores, platforms and channels in South Africa.
