About SME South Africa

SME South Africa is a leading online publication dedicated to helping South Africans start, manage, and grow their businesses. As part of this mission, we are hosting the SME Funding Summit in May 2025—an in-person event focused on funding opportunities, investment insights, and growth strategies for SMEs.

Role overview

We are looking for a highly skilled freelance videographer to handle all video production needs related to the SME Funding Summit. The ideal candidate will be responsible for pre-event content development, on-the-day event production, post-production, and repurposing content for future promotional use.

Key responsibilities

Pre-event (March – May 2025)

• Develop creative concepts for promotional videos, including teaser trailers, sponsor promos, and speaker interviews.
• Shoot and edit video content featuring SME South Africa executives, speakers, and partners.
• Create social media video content to generate excitement and drive registrations for the summit.
• Ensure all content aligns with SME South Africa’s brand guidelines and marketing goals.

On-the-day event production (May 2025)

• Capture high-quality video footage of keynote sessions, panel discussions, and networking interactions.
• Conduct on-site interviews with speakers, sponsors, and attendees.
• Work closely with the event marketing and production team to ensure smooth video operations.
• Provide live video coverage or highlights for real-time social media updates.

Post-event production and editing (June – August 2025)

• Edit event footage into recap videos, highlight reels, and key session summaries.
• Repurpose content into short-form videos for social media platforms such as Instagram Reels, TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and LinkedIn.
• Develop high-quality promotional videos for future SME South Africa events and campaigns.
• Manage and organise all video assets for SME South Africa’s content archives.

Required skills and experience

• At least three years of videography experience (event videography preferred).
• Proficiency in video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, Final Cut Pro, After Effects, or similar).
• Experience in storyboarding, scripting, and pre-production planning.
• Ability to operate professional video equipment, including cameras, lighting, and audio gear.
• Motion graphics and animation skills are a plus.
• Experience in shooting for social media platforms (vertical video, dynamic cuts, and engagement-driven content).
• Strong storytelling skills and an eye for capturing compelling visual content.
• Ability to work independently and meet tight deadlines.
• Strong communication and collaboration skills.

Contract and compensation

• Freelance contract: Three to six months (March – August 2025).
• Compensation: Competitive, based on experience (to be discussed).
• Work arrangement: Flexible and hybrid, with in-person attendance required for events and production.
