Role objective
The creative director, responsible for leading a team of creatives, is skilled in the strategic and conceptual intricacies needed to craft successful campaigns, whether above-the-line or digital. They achieve this through excellent time and people management skills, attention to detail, and a strong sense of accountability.
The creative director ensures client success through sound strategic direction, clever visual execution, and clean copy, contributing to overall client satisfaction and the company’s bottom line.
Key responsibilities
Operational
- Work alongside fellow creative directors, CEO, and head of production to uphold and enhance Lumico’s creative reputation.
- Lead the creative team in producing high-quality concepts, art direction, and copy in response to client briefs.
- Provide creative guidance through design and art direction insights to craft exceptional work.
- Ensure all creative output meets the highest quality standards.
- Decode core brand challenges and develop effective creative solutions.
- Present and take ownership of creative work internally and externally in a professional and impactful manner.
- Maintain strong relationships with internal and external teams.
- Collaborate with traffic, strategy, production, and account management to align expectations and enhance creative output.
- Foster a collaborative environment by engaging in creative processes with the team, acting as a leader they work with, not just for.
- Use strategic insights and articulation skills to help the creative team execute ideas effectively.
- Actively participate in new business pitches and business development efforts when required.
- Inspire, coach, and guide the creative teams with an empathetic approach to continuous improvement.
Leadership and team management
- Oversee a creative team of four to ten members, depending on project demands.
- Serve as a mentor and leader, motivating creatives with a high level of emotional intelligence and fostering professional growth.
- Conduct performance appraisals and implement growth and development plans for team members.
- Cultivate a culture of collaboration and feedback through workshops, post-mortem sessions, team-building activities, and a creative circle panel.
Marketing and strategy
- Define and implement Lumico’s creative direction alongside fellow creative directors.
- Work closely with the media buying and strategy teams to ensure creative alignment with both strategic direction and platform objectives.
- Ensure creative outputs align with client objectives and performance-driven marketing goals.
- Lead innovation efforts, staying ahead of new technologies, design trends, and storytelling techniques.
- Maintain full responsibility for the creative environment, ensuring it evolves with industry trends and internal goals.
General
- Report directly to the CEO.
- Manage external creative talent, including freelancers and agencies, as needed.
- Take ownership of refining internal processes and workflows to enhance creative efficiency while respecting existing structures.
Key requirements
- Minimum of three years' experience in a creative leadership role.
- Strong background in either copywriting or graphic design (both preferred but not required).
- Proficiency in relevant tools, including project management software, Slack, Microsoft Office, Meta Business Suite, and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong soft skills, including leadership, emotional intelligence, accountability, and adaptability.
- Industry experience in digital marketing, branding, and advertising.

- Ensure mentorship and training programmes enhance team development.
Client satisfaction and brand consistency
- Maintain high levels of client satisfaction through consistent and high-quality creative direction.
- Ensure brand consistency across all creative work.
Revenue growth and business development support
- Grow retainer clients and support the business development team in acquiring new clients through strong creative proposals.
Creative innovation and efficiency
- Improve team efficiency and cohesion.
- Launch new creative initiatives and establish best practices.
Client growth and feedback
- Track account growth as an indicator of creative success.
- Gather client feedback to measure engagement and satisfaction.
