Woolies workers take to streets
Retail giant Woolworths will feel the wrath of the workers when thousands of its striking employees take to the streets on Friday. Striking members of the South African Commercial Catering and Allied Workers Union (Saccawu) will be joined by scores of workers from other Cosatu-affiliated unions. The strike, in its third week, has only seen employees picket outside the stores to support their demand for union recognition. Saccawu on Monday announced that it will march to the Business Unity SA (Busa) offices. “We call on all Woolworths employees in distribution to join in the march,” said Mduduzi Mbongwe, the deputy general secretary of Saccawu.
