Don't box me in, says soapie star
His initial flirtations with boxing may have been seen by some as a gimmick but Generations: The Legacy actor Vuyo ''Gaddafi" Dabula intends to make the sweet science his home after acquiring a promoter's licence.
Dabula's interest in the sport happened after the actor and his Muvhango counterpart Gabriel ''Chief" Temudzani were asked to take part in an exhibition match to publicise the South African boxing awards earlier this year.
The actor said his Dabula Sports Promotions would now take his involvement in the real thing further.
''I know that it is going to be difficult but we will push very hard," he said.
Dabula and his brother Siyolo will run the company. It will operate from Standerton, in Mpumalanga, where Siyolo, a former professional, is based.
The Generations actor said he was planning to use his links to the entertainment world to shine the spotlight on a sport that has lost some of its allure.
''I will definitely tap into the relationships I have established in the entertainment world," he said.
Dabula Sports Promotions will be launched in July.
