Junior CX/UX Designer

Are you interested in advocacy or social justice within the youth development sector focusing on solving youth unemployment? Are you passionate about designing the user experience for digital campaigns? Do you get excited about interpreting data to ensure the success of advocacy campaigns? Are you comfortable working in a fast-paced environment? We are looking for a confident individual energised by UX and CX and understands audiences for social justice.

This is a 12-month contract (with the possibility of renewal), based in Cape Town, with occasional domestic travel required.  Currently incubated by the DG Murray Trust (www.dgmt.co.za), Youth Capital (www.youthcapital.co.za), is a campaign advocating for youth-centred and evidence-based solutions to youth unemployment. You will work in a small but energetic team, growing and supporting Youth Capital’s digital community through UX and CX research and design.

Responsibilities

• Actively works to deepen the understanding of identified personas and their digital journeys and utilises these insights to promote advocacy campaigns for policy change.
• Contribute to the refinement and execution of the communication strategy, with a focus on audience research, campaign design and digital conversion.
• Provide regular reporting on digital performance and recommend improved digital strategies and implementation based on learnings and insights.
• Oversee website management, and for the UX of the Youth Capital website and improvements based on insights; be responsible for data management to ensure Youth Capital’s database is kept up to date.
• Conversational Design and content development for Youth Capital’s WhatsApp.
• Conduct user research, develop customer/user journey maps and analyse customer/user data for improved web performance and audience matching, including creating and testing prototypes.
• Monitor and evaluate the audience experience.

Required

• A relevant degree or diploma in communications, media or related field.
• Certification in UX/CX.
• Communication: outstanding English writing and verbal communication skills (any second language would be a bonus).
• At least 1-2 years experience in UX/CX, user research - with a portfolio of evidence
• Proficiency with Figma/Adobe Suite/Google Suite
• Experience in CX/UX
• Strong analytical skills (e.g. GA4, Meta and TikTok insights)
• Knowledge of user research methods
• Knowledge of generative AI would be preferred.
• Excellent time management skills and an ability to self-manage and move between different tasks to meet deadlines.
• Curiosity to understand identified audiences and improve user journeys for advocacy purposes.
• Thrive working in a small team and appreciate feedback from team members.
• Have a love for learning and an interest in social justice and advocacy.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
