Snr. Postgrad Lecturer - MP and Research Studies

Overview

An opportunity is available for a committed professional to join our postgraduate motion picture medium lectureship (BA Honours in Live Performance and MFA in Live Performance Medium) in 2025. This role focuses on learning outcomes in development, entrepreneurship, and innovation for television, film, and other entertainment platforms. The honours degrees in motion picture medium and live performance build on undergraduate studies through practice-led research and research-led practice. The MFA programme focuses solely on the motion picture medium.

The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching, research development, and discipline-specific training. This includes scriptwriting, producing, directing, and integrating research into practical outcomes. The position requires industry experience and the ability to engage students with both classical and contemporary film studies and production methods.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver lectures in scriptwriting (fiction), producing, and directing, as well as selected research course topics.
• Develop lesson plans, course materials, and assessments aligned with the curriculum.
• Conduct research to ensure up-to-date and relevant lecture content.
• Manage student progress, ensuring clarity on assignments, assessments, and deadlines.
• Oversee assessment processes, including formative and summative evaluations.
• Coordinate with AFDA counterparts to ensure consistency across campuses.
• Supervise research projects for honours students.
• Manage facilities and equipment for coursework and projects.
• Organise graduation exhibitions and industry engagement events.
• Plan and coordinate practical workshops, boot camps, and production scheduling.
• Provide feedback during screenings and mentor students in their creative development.
• Participate in quality assurance, marketing activities, and postgraduate events.

Key competencies

• Experience lecturing at a postgraduate level.
• Strong administrative and organisational skills.
• Industry experience in production, scriptwriting, or directing.
• Ability to work with AFDA’s curriculum, methodologies, and research frameworks.
• Excellent communication, time management, and interpersonal skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Docs, Teams, Zoom, PowerPoint, and Turnitin.
• Ability to manage budgets, facilities, and equipment inventory.
• Capacity to stay updated with technological advancements in the industry.
